The Nationalist Party agrees with the principle on which the coalition for a higher minimum wage is based upon and believes that this is the basic principle for social justice.

While meeting members of the coalition, PN leader Simon Busuttil praised their efforts and the proposals they put forward. He said that the vision for a better future in Malta is based on four foundations; economy for the people, social justice, better quality of life and onest leadership.

The coalition told Dr Busuttil that it is putting forward three proposals; an increase in minimum wage, a revision in the way salary increases are given and an adjustment in the way income tax is calculated. Members of the coalition explained that their main purpose is to have workers paid with a decent salary.

The coalition explained that the proposition to have a minimum wage increase of 3.5% was based on consultation with a number of economists and scientific studies. They believe that more than 22,000 people will benefit from this increase.
