A bus driver who ran a red light near Mater Dei Hospital on Friday has been identified and will face disciplinary procedures, according to a Malta Public Transport spokesperson.

This news portal yesterday uploaded the footage of the incident, which was picked up by a dashcam of the car following the bus. The bus is approaching the pedestrian crossing when it stops. The light turns from green to amber and to red, but the driver just presses on the accelerator and moves on.

Replying to questions by this paper, a spokesperson for the public transport company said: “Road safety is a top priority for Malta Public Transport and the incident was taken very seriously, with internal investigations commencing as soon as the article was published. The driver has been identified and the necessary disciplinary action will be taken according to the outcome of the investigation.”

The spokesperson said Malta Public Transport regretted the incident and “remains committed to road safety, having recently increased the complement of Driving Instructors who are now conducting direct observations while drivers are on the road.”
