The Għaqda Żgħażagħ La Stella a sub-committee within the Soċjeta Filarmonika La Stella is presenting a crib with a difference at the premises of Radju Leħen il-Belt Victoriain St George’s Square, Victoria.
This crib is different due to its originality of portraying typical landscapes of Gozo and all the figurines found in the crib portray real life individuals and personalities, includiong the Pope, the Archbishop and the Bishop of Gozo. The schenography and figurines are all work of young gozitan artist, Michael Cutajar Zahra.
The schenography chosen for this year’s crib is Xlendi Valley. Among the real life structures that are replicated in this crib we find the fountain located in Lunzjata Valley that goes way back to the days of the Order of St John. A replica of the watch tower of Xlendithat was built in 1650 byGrand MasterLascaris and the Parish church of Fontana, that is dedicatedto the Sacred Heart of Jesusconstructed between 1893 and 1905.
The grotto were the birth of baby Jesus is presented is a replica ofthe internal part of La Grotta Discotheque.‘Il-Grotta’, as it is known by many, was opened in the early 80sand to this date is still considered as the best entertainment venue during Summer. This is mainly due to it’s beautiful setting on top of Xlendi Valley and it’s features that includes a natural cave.
Amongst the figurines that were introduced this year we find Gorg Said, id-Dias, La Grotta. Gorg Said is also associated with Victoria Hotspurs F.Cwere he served as a player and President of the same club for a number of years.
For the anniversary of 100 years from the opening of the gozitan company Magro Brothers, Għaqda Żgħażagħ La Stella included a figurine of the merchant ĠanniMagro who in 1916 together with his three children as partners founded this successful company.
The crib is open every day, in the morning from 10am till mid-day and in the evening from 5pm till 8pm until Sunday 8 January 2017.
