Renowned photographer Rene Rossignaud yesterday evening took these amazing clips and pictures of the snow-covered Mount Etna in Sicily.

The volcano, towering over the Italian island, was visible from several localities, including Ggharghur, Naxxar and Mellieha.

Mr Rossignaud took this picture from Mdina at 4.35pm. He was using a normal digital camera with a 200mm lens. He asked his Facebook friends to share the picture, and share it they did, for the picture went completely viral on the social media. The photographer sent the above video exclusively to The Malta Independent.

Reacting to some comments on Facebook, the photographer said this was not the first time he had seen Sicily from Malta and insisted the photos were not edited. “Most People say it’s impossible to see Sicily... Just open your eyes!, I see it almost twice a week. No Photoshop, just a Raw image and added a lot of contrast.”

Last week our own photographer Jonathan Borg took these snaps of the Sicilian coastline at night from Gharghur.
