The Labour Party has this morning reiterated how grievous the implications and facts established in the independent CapitalOne inquiry are. Minister Owen Bonnici, together with Minister for the Economy Chris Cardona said that they expect to see the leader of the Opposition take action against his Deputy Leader of the PN, Beppe Fenech Adami.

Dr Cardona said that the inquiry clearly shows that the police investigations into CapitolOne were abruptly halted and that documents from the police files were missing. He said that this was a very serious case and that the PN leader should take action. "Let's see what Simon Busuttil will do. Will he take action, or will he defend Beppe Fenech Adami in the same way he defende Jason Azzopardi in the Lowenbrau case or Toni Bezzina?"

The press conference this morning was called in the light of an inquiry report into CapitolOne. The report investigated allegations made by MaltaToday, that police investigations were stopped when Beppe Fenech Adami's name cropped up.

Minister Cardona said that if it was his name or Owen Bonnici's, the media would be calling for their immediate resignations. He described the case as a serious precedent in the history of Maltese politics.

Questioned by journalists, Minister Owen Bonnci was asked to quote part of the inquiry which states that the police investigation was stopped after interference from Dr Fenech Adami. Dr Bonnici did not reply to this question and called on journalist to focus on the facts at hand. "The inquiry makes some very serious, factual conclusion. Primarily, that the police investigation was stopped and that some documents were found missing from the police files. Beppe Fenech Adami was the man responsible for police at the time these things allegedly took place."

Replying to questions by The Malta Independent, the Minister said that so far, the government cannot come up with a deadline for an FIAU investigation because it is a criminal offence for any of their officials to reveal information from their inquiry before its published.

Beppe Fenech Adami says he is happy with report findings

The Deputy Leader of the Nationalist Party, Beppe Fenech Adami said he is happy with the results of the inquiry which investigated the allegations made on his regard.

"I am happy that after four months of constant attacks against me, the report shows no evidence that I ever interfered with police," he said this morning while speaking on the PN radio station.

"Joseph Muscat announced on a Sunday morning four months ago, that he will appoint an inquiry, implying I abused of my position to stop an investigation. I am happy to see the report shows otherwise."

"The 37-page report, I am mentioned three times, and every time I am mentioned, it is clear that it does not result I interfered with police or the AG."

"The PL is the most corrupt government and Muscat has given up trying to change this opinion. That is why they try to argue that the PN is more corrupt than them. They tried to attack Ann Fenech, Simon Busuttil and so on but every time, the PL media fails to come up with tangible proof."
