Marsa power station to be closed today ‘once and for all’ - government

Sunday, 12 March 2017, 07:51 Last update: about 8 years ago

The government said that the Marsa power station will be closed once and for all as from today.

In a statement, the government said Enemalta will be removing cables leading to the power station because it is no longer needed. Boilers 5, 6, 7 and 8, commissioned between 1982 and 1987, will be cut off from the electricity grid.

This could be done because Enemalta started to receive energy generated by the gas-fired power station in Delimara, and so there is no more need for the Marsa power station to remain on cold standby.

No Portfolio Minister Konrad Mizzi said that the closure of the power station in Marsa would not have been possible without the gas power station in Delimara.
