Man arraigned after allegedly attempting to break into vehicles parked in Floriana

A Valletta resident who attempted to break into cars parked in Floriana yesterday was arraigned in court today.

Mohamed Mokhtar Mohamed Jamhur, 25, was arraigned by police inspector Priscilla Caruana Lee, and is charged with attempted theft, criminal damage, relapsing and breaching conditions of a suspended sentence

There was no request for bail this morning.

The police inspector told the court that the police received reports of a hooded man breaking into vehicles on Triq il-Fosos, Floriana, at around 3.45am yesterday.

Mr Jamhur was found near the Floriana Health Centre, and two cars were found to have been damaged as a result of attempted forced entry, however nothing was stolen, the inspector said.

Mr Jamhur previously received a suspended sentence for stabbing his wife's lover.

There was no bail request filed and the accused pleaded not guilty.

The accused admitted to having a substance abuse problem.
