Dr Busuttil this evening slammed 'fear mongering' by the Labour Party that a Nationalist Government will destabilize the economy and remove feasts and fireworks , amongst others.

Nationalist Party Leader Simon Busuttil was addressing a political event in San Gwann in the run up towards the general election this Saturday, under the theme 'I Choose Malta'.

The Nationalist Party built the economy, how can it be that it won't grow with us?" said the party leader. "When the Nationalist Party were in Government, in the EU it was only Germany and Malta who had a strengthening economy. So why are you trying to scare us about the economy?" he said.

"The economy didn't grow in March of 2013, Joseph Muscat found a strong economy which kept on growing, because in the world, the climate kept on growing because it was growing worldwide, not because Joseph Muscat got elected," he said.

"If we kept our economy growing in the turmoil of the European recession, imagine how it will grow in the calm," he stated.

Dr Busuttil went on to say that fear mongering on the economy was not the only type of fear mongering, "they say they are a positive government, yet they criticized every proposal negatively, they tried to scare everyone as much as they could; that hunting will end, that feasts will end,  that fireworks will end," he said.

"Why do you need to do these things in order to worry people? It's like we were never in the government, and the feasts and fireworks were always there, and will stay there because they are part of our culture and identity," he said.

"When Joseph Muscat does not find ways to defend himself, we know that he starts throwing mud on us. Mud does not stick to people with integrity, no matter how much you throw," said Dr Busuttil. He said that Dr Muscat has been saying that "if Simon Busuttil is in government, the economy's wheels will stop working." 

"We have a good track record on economy, we will keep what Joseph Muscat has done well, and build on it, but we will do more and more, that is our our ambition". 

Dr Busuttil went on to mention some of the Nationalist Party's proposals linked to the economy, such as reducing tax to 10% for small businesses and self-employed individuals.

He also mentioned the pledge to decrease the prices of petrol and diesel by 5c/litre and that Malta's prices at the pumps will remain below the European average

"With Joseph Muscat our prices of petrol were amongst highest in the EU," he said, saying that although they were stable, they were high. "You should keep the prices steady in low prices not stability with high prices.," he added.

"They tried to scare people but I think trust and hope will win over fear this coming Saturday," he concluded.
