Ballot boxes are being delivered to the counting hall in Naxxar in preparation for tomorrow's vote counting exercise.
The votes from all polling stations, including those in Gozo, will be transferred to the Naxxar complex, and they will be placed into packets of 50 overnight. Tomorrow morning at around 10am, the counting of votes will begin and they will be placed into the candidates' pigeonhole according to first preference votes cast in the first count.
More than 3,000 assistant electoral commissioners and counting agents are taking part in the electoral process.
This election had a relatively short campaign when compared to 2013, with the Prime Minister having called a snap election.
If one of the parties wins by a large margin, the likelihood is that the electorate would know of such a win early on, however if the results are close the situation would likely drag on until one side concedes.
Throughout the day, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and PN Leader Simon Busuttil visited different localities around both Malta and Gozo. Both leaders also thanked campaign volunteers.
President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca earlier today called for a process of reconciliation after condemning the 'lack of respect and dignity' between politicians and people alike during the general election campaign.
