Therese Comodini Cachia has changed her mind – she will be staying on as a representative of the eighth district in the Maltese Parliament.

Yesterday, Comodini Cachia had decided to reject the seat she won to stay as an MEP. But, after the negative feedback received, she has reversed the decision.

In a statement, Comodini Cachia said that from the reaction received it was clear that the people wanted her in the Maltese House of Representatives and not in the European Parliament. "I appreciate the sincerity, thank them for it, and apologise that my decision hurt them".

"I entered politics to be of service, where people want me to be, and so I am choosing to represent the people in the Maltese Parliament while resigning from the European Parliament."

She said she will dedicate her energy for the strengthening of the Nationalist Party, because it is the only party that guarantees clean leadership on which a sound economy can be built.

PN reacts

The Nationalist Party has welcomed the decision taken by Therese Comodini Cachia to retain her local parliamentary seat.

"The Nationalist Party recognises the loyalty and sacrifices that Comodini Cachia made when accepting to contest for the general election despite her position in the European Parliament." In a statement, the PN said that Comodini Cachia took the decision to contest following insistence from the PN leader Simon Busuttil.
