Saturday, 17 June 2017, 10:09 Last update: about 8 years ago

The Labour Party will be electing its new deputy leader for parliamentary affairs on 14 or 15 July, the party said in a statement.

It will be receiving nominations for the post between Tuesday at 10am and Thursday at 6pm.

The winner will be replacing Louis Grech, who has chosen not to contest the past election and is therefore no longer an MP.

The winner will also take over the role of Deputy Prime Minister.

The party is also receiving nominations for positions in the party’s administration – president, vice-president, organisational secretary and international secretary.

A secret vote of confidence will also be taken on the Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat, and deputy leader for party affairs, Chris Cardona.

Voting will take place during an extraordinary general conference to be held on 13 July and on the following day.

If none of the candidates will obtain 50% plus one of the votes, a second voting exercise will take place on 15 July between the two candidates obtaining the highest number of votes.
