Celebrations are currently in full swing with the crowd bursting with excitement as Castille was lit up with the rainbow colours, which are synonymous with the LGBTIQ movement, and the slogan ‘we made history’.

Fireworks filled the air as people danced, drank and enjoyed the historic moment.

People joining for the celebration came from all walks of life, with young and old, gay and straight couples and even a few dogs dressed up in gay-pride colours in attendance.

A few tourists and expats also made it down Castille to join in the party.

Just after such a divisive general election campaign, people seem to have forgotten the animosity that gripped the nation just one month ago.

Head of the Malta Gay Rights Movement Gabby Calleja delivered an emotional speech where she specifically thanked Equality Minister Helena Dalli, the Opposition and Prime Minister Joseph Muscat for all making gay marriage a possibility in Malta.

While it was said that outgoing leader Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil was invited on stage to stand with the Prime Minister, members of the Labour Party and leading members of the gay community, it was deputy leader Mario de Marco who got on stage.
