The dismantling of the Delimara power station's chimney is to commence. A decision tomorrow is taking place in order to decide on the phases of its removal. Enemata explained that the first phase includes dismantling the chimney which is 150 metres high, making it the highest structure that exists in our country.
After last April, the chimney of the power station was switched off and that was the last day Malta used heavy oil for electricity.
The Minister for Energy and Management of Water Joe Mizzi said that this is a rigorous process which Enemalta is ensuring that all the structures are removed safety. He also added that his was another step in ending the chapter to Malta using heavy fuel oil.
"This means the government is continuing to build on all the good we've managed to achieve in these last four years" Mizzi said. He concluded by saying that this will lead to cleaner air especially for citizens in the south of the Island, particularly Marsaxlook.
