PD leader Marlene Farrugia was far from satisfied with the budget, saying that with all the boasting of a surplus, she was expecting that there would be more for those who are living under the poverty line.

“The biggest problems which the Maltese are facing are housing, traffic and pensions, in particular those who cannot keep up with the costs of life. At a time when joseph Muscat is telling us there is a surplus he only gave pensioners an extra €2 euro. That’s only enough for milk and bread. He did not give them the jump that they needed to live a dignified life,” Farrugia said.

She also said the government had often mentioned the €50 million for housing, but only 700 housing units would be offered.  “We know there is a list of 3,000 who need housing. What’s going to happen to these people?”

“On the subject of traffic I assumed he was going to speak about capital projects. But he mentioned none.”

Farrugia said the government was continuing to reap the benefits of 25 years of PN governments., “who got us through two worldwide financial crises.”

She added that if you look for any new sectors that have been created by this administration, there are none.
