Vincenzo Montella has been sacked by Italy club Milan after yesterday’s 0-0 home draw against Torino.
The club has announced that former player Rino Gattuso will take over the team.
Milan, which spent more than 200 million euros (nearly $250 million) on new players in the offseason, has won only two of its past nine matches and has as many losses — six — as wins.
Milan lanuguish in seventh place, 11 points away from the fourth position which would guarantee a place in the Champions League next season. They have not scored in any of their last five home games, and have lost six of the first 14 games of the league.
Milan tweeted Monday that it "parted ways" with Montella and that "management of the first team is entrusted to Gennaro Gattuso."
Gattuso, a former Milan player, had been in charge of the club's youth squad.
Montella was hired in June 2016.
