No one was injured when a small fire broke out at the Sant’ Antnin recycling plant in Marsascala, the government and WasteServ said.
The fire broke out in a “small part of the plant” at around 4:15pm, they said.
The blaze was put out after around an hour.
Preliminary investigations show that the fire was caused by industrial tools that were being used in an area that was previously used to collect waste for processing. Workers operating in this vicinity were evacuated as a precaution and the Civil Protection Department was called in.
The CPD said 12 firefighters had responded to the call.
WasteServ said plant operations resumed as soon as the site was certified to be safe.
A large part of the recycling plant was ravaged by fire in May of last year.
