Kappara Junction: How it was 50 years ago, and how it is today

Friday, 26 January 2018, 08:05 Last update: about 9 years ago

This black and white photo was recently uploaded on Facebook, in a group reserved for people who live in St Julian’s, by Joseph Spiteri.

No dateline or name of photographer was given, but this is what the Regional Road looked like about in the late 1960s.

As one can see, there are no buildings above the roundabout, which is now situated beneath the flyover that has been constructed over the past two years. On the left hand side there is also what for many years was known as the “gas tank”, which was removed a few years ago.

The building (top, right) is the Zammit Clapp Hospital. Of course, the national pool complex is not in the picture, as it was built in the early 1990s. The photo was originally uploaded on Bay Retro.

The picture below was taken yesterday from the same angle by our photographer Michael Camilleri. It shows the new flyover as well as the sprawl of buildings over the junction.
