On 21 April, Prof. Emmanuel Sinagra officially took over the presidency of European Chemistry Thematic Network at the General Assembly 2018, which was held at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague. This is the normal succession after he spent one year as president-elect.

ECTNA, a non-profit making association, is an outcome of six years (1996-2002) of networking activity. The Association was created to provide a sustainable future for the European Chemistry Thematic Network. The objectives of the association include the enhancement of quality in chemistry degrees and to provide a pan-European framework for first cycle chemistry degrees.

The University of Malta is one of over 100 members of the association from 30 different European countries and with associate members worldwide. Members include higher education institutions and national chemical societies. 

Prof. Sinagra's aims for his three-year presidency are to rekindle active participation and to secure funds for existing and future programmes of the Network.
