The Central Bank of Malta has unveiled its Strategic Plan for 2027-2030, setting out the institution's priorities for the coming four years amid a rapidly changing economic, technological and financial environment.

Governor Alexander Demarco, together with Deputy Governors Oliver Bonello and Rita Schembri, presented the plan to Bank employees.

Under the vision "A trusted, independent and forward-looking central bank", the plan outlines the Bank's direction for the years ahead and reiterates its commitment to serving the public interest through independence, integrity, competence and transparency.

During their presentation, the Governor and Deputy Governors highlighted the increasingly complex environment in which the Bank operates. This includes geopolitical uncertainty, technological and financial innovation, growing cyber threats, climate-related risks and evolving expectations among stakeholders.

While the Bank's mandate remains firmly established, they said, the way it fulfils that mandate must continue to adapt to changing circumstances.

The Strategic Plan is built around eight strategic pillars. Four focus on strengthening the Bank's contribution to public value through price stability, efficient and secure payment and cash services, stakeholder engagement, and the responsible management of financial assets.

The remaining four pillars focus on financial stability; risk and security; governance and strategy execution; and operational excellence and people.

Together, these priorities are aimed at strengthening the Bank's financial and institutional resilience, supporting responsible digital transformation, enhancing staff capabilities and maintaining robust standards of governance and accountability.

Addressing staff, the Governor and Deputy Governors stressed the importance of ensuring that individual and departmental responsibilities are aligned with the Bank's strategic objectives. They encouraged greater collaboration across organisational areas, early identification of dependencies, continued professional development and a collective approach to delivering the plan.

The presentation concluded with the Governor and Deputy Governors thanking staff for their dedication, professionalism and service to the Bank.

They emphasised that the successful implementation of the Strategic Plan would be a shared responsibility and reaffirmed the Central Bank's commitment to serving Malta and the Eurosystem with excellence.
