Busuttil says many people still believe PM owns Egrant as Muscat labels him 'fraudster'

PN MP Simon Busuttil has said that he, and many other people, still believe it is the Prime Minister who owns Egrant.

During a heated debate in Parliament over the latest Daphne Project allegations regarding Economy Minister Chris Cardona, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat called Simon Busuttil a fraudster.

The sitting was then suspended. After the sitting was restarted Simon Busuttil raised a point of order stating that Muscat had accused him of forging signatures, telling him that he will never be able to set foot in the country again. Busuttil denied the accusations and demanded that the allegations be substantiated.

Muscat was referencing to the forged signatures found on the declarations of trust linking Michelle Muscat to the Panama based company Egrant, as read in the Egrant inquiry conclusions.

The Leader of the Opposition, Adrian Delia, reiterated that the Egrant inquiry should be made public by the Prime Minister, because the accusation raised by Muscat, he says, was based on his privileged access to the report.

Delia was referring to the not-yet-released inquiry report on the Egrant case. A case he has currently taken to court to acquire a copy of the report as, he says, is his constitutional right as to preserve balance in power between the ruling party and the opposition.

Busuttil said that he already carried responsibility by resigning as party leader, and that he would not take lessons on responsibility from the government.

Muscat said that he had only spoken about what was known, and not what was not public. Muscat argued that Busuttil had made the Egrant arguments his own, and that they were based on falsified documents,

The Prime Minister said that for him, Busuttil is politically responsible for what happened, and that if he were in Busuttil's shoes he would have resigned long ago. Muscat did acknowledge that he might have been too aggressive, and said that if he offended him beyond political rhetoric then he apologises. He said that his reference to Busuttil not seeing the country again was metaphoric, in that Busuttil should be ashamed of being seen after basing his career on a lie.

Simon Busuttil then spoke directly to the Prime Minister and told him that as long as he keeps Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi by his side then 'many people out there' will believe that Egrant belongs to Muscat.
