Konrad Mizzi withdraws constitutional case on breach of rights

Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi has withdrawn a constitutional case claiming breach of rights after a court on Tuesday cancelled an order by a Magistrate for an inquiry to be launched into Panama Papers revelations.

In a tweet, Mizzi said that after the Criminal Court decree dismissed “Simon Busuttil’s falsities outright”, he withdrew the constitutional case in “full respect of the court’s pronouncement”.

On Tuesday, the Criminal court ruled that the level of detail in Simon Busuttil's claims did not satisfy the requirements at law for such an inquiry to begin.

The court found that Busuttil did not, in his application, indicate in detail the facts of the crimes he alleged took place, and only made allegations.

Busuttil had asked the courts to launch a magisterial inquiry into the Panama Papers revelations.

Mizzi had filed the constitutional application claiming a breach of his right to a fair hearing in a case related to the Panama Appeals. The case has now been withdrawn.
