Valletta Mayor Alexiei Dingli resigns, says he will remain active in the PN

Valletta Mayor Alexiei Dingli has resigned after holding the post for ten years.

The Malta Independent is informed that Dingli had been thinking of stepping down for a while and his resignation has nothing to do with the current situation in the Nationalist Party.

According to the PN’s news website, PN Leader Adrian Delia thanked Dingli for his contribution to bring Valletta back to life.

Dingli said the decision to resign was not an easy once since his experience as mayor of Malta’s capital city was a positive one. Professor Dingli said he has been active within the PN for the last 30 years and his resignation from the council did not mean that he would no longer remain active in the party.

PN Leader Adrian Delia said he was accepting the resignation with regret and thanked Dingli for his contribution to the party and to Valletta. He said the Valletta local council, under Dingli’s leadership, had changed the face of the city.

PN Secretary General Clyde Puli and the President of the Administrative Council, David Stellini, were also present for the meeting.

The Valletta council unanimously elected Dingli as Mayor after the resignation of Paul Borg Olivier, in July 2008. He was re-elected mayor in the 2013 local council election.
