Pembroke returned to winning ways after a seven-match barren spell beating Mqabba with a goal in each half. Both sides started the new year after a very difficult moment with Mqabba coming from a fiv-match winless streak.

Both sides were under new guidance with Pembroke under coach Brian Spiteri and with Mqabba under coach Alfred Attard. However for Mqabba things did not improve much as they suffered another setback, as they now suffered their fifth defeat of the season and are now in third from bottom in the table.

Pembroke's goal came on 38 minutes through Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza who scored from close range, with Pembroke's second on 73 minutes through Moacir da Silva Wilmsen.

Qrendi claimed the three points at stake thanks to a Josuel Spiteri goal on the hour, beating Zebbug Rangers in a rather drab affair.

The start was promising with both sides looking for an early lead but the tempo quickly faded away and the match was mainly played in midfield, with Qrendi always holding the upper hand.

The all important goal came from a Ciro Quaranta effort that was partially saved by the Zebbug goalkeeper, with Josuel Spiteri right in the correct position to collect the rebound and hit home from close range.

Zebbug, who now failed to score in their last five outings, had a timd reaction and the closest they could go was three minutes from time when a header by substitute Caetano da Silva missed the upright by a whisker.

Zejtun started the new year on a top note, obtaining the second consecutive victory of the season easily beating Lija 4-1. It was a deserved victory for the new look Zejtun side who with this win surely moved to safer waters, and can even look forward to the top places.

Zejtun were the better team and took the lead a minute before the break with a Clayton Giordemaina header. On the hour Lija drew level when Koken Kuroki scored with a low shot.

But Zejtun immediately regained the lead when Adam Smeir passed towards Rafael De Fex Junior who shot home from close range. Zejtun sealed the issue on 77 minutes with a Johan Castano header, with the same player scoring his second goal in stoppage time for Zejtun's fourth and final goal.

A goal from substitute Luka Mijic half way through the second half gave Sirens their fifth consecutive victory, as the league leaders beat a highly motivated Vittoriosa side 1-0. Sirens continued were they left off last year with another polished display against a well organised Vittoriosa side who gave the leaders a very good run for their money.

The game was very balanced in the first quarter with both sides hitting the post in the opening minutes. However Sirens grew in composure, and dominated at times with some very good moves.

Vittoriosa goalkeeper cassar made a string of good saves to keep his side in the game but could do nothing on 69 minutes when Luka Mijic, who came in for the injured Nwoba on the half hour, shot home from close range after a very good Sirens move started from Morgon Filho.
