The match between the league leaders Sirens and bottom of the table side Marsa resulted in a nightmare for the wooden spoonists who were humiliated by Sirens who scored at will.

There was no doubt that Sirens were the favourites before the match started, but few would have imagined such a final scoreline. Marsa are in deep trouble and the relegation to Division two is now inevitable.

Sirens surged forward from the very first minute and with the Marsa defence in shambles the Sirens forwards carved their way easily past the static and helpless Marsa rearguard to score at regular intervals, especially in the first half.

In the second half Sirens eased the pressure as the score could have been much bigger. Morgon Filho was the best scorer of this goal glut scoring a poker.

Gudja had a lucky escape yesterday beating Pembroke by a solitary goal scored by Aboulezz early in the second half. The match was balanced and keenly contested and Gudja were not at their best.

The victory was a very important one for Gudja who maintained their third position in the standings behind Sirens and Santa Lucia.

Pembroke deserved something more from this match especially for their efforts late in the game when Pembroke pushed evrything forward iun search of the equaliser, hitting the woodwork and having a ball cleared off the goal line.

Gudja's goal was a good scored with a great shot from the edge of the area by Aboulezz, who was later substituted fifteen minutes from time.

Luca Casha scored a great goal for Vittoriosa on 58 minutes to give his side a precious win against free falling Mqabba. Both sides came to this match following a series of diappointing results, with Vittoriosa six matches without a win, and mqabba seven matches without a victory.

The match was a drab affair, and both teams confirmed their difficult moment. In the end Vittoriosa at least got the points at stake, leaving Mqabba in a desperate position.

For Mqabba this was the third successive defeat and the team has not scored one single goal in the last five matches. It is obvious that Mqabba’s problems lie mainly in attack.

The goal was the highlight of the match and was a great effort from Luca Casha with the ball finishing in the top corner of the net.

Lija Athletic returned to winning ways and moved to fourth place in the table beating Naxxar 3-1, with all goals coming in the first twenty six minutes of the game. Lija were smarting from two successive defeats and were the better team in the first half, building a two-goal lead that they preserved till the end.

At the start of the second period Lija were reduced to ten men when captain Daniel Scerri received a second booking. Naxxar tried to get back in the game and take advantage of their numerical superiority, but Lija defended well and were dangerous in their counter breaks, missing a couple of scoring chances near the end.

A late penalty scored by Ion Alin Margarit was enough for Swieqi to beat lowly San Gwann in a low profile match which failed to lift off.

San Gwann dominated the first half creating several scoring chances especially in the opening fifteen minutes of the match with the Swieqi goalkeeper Debattista doing a string of incredible saves to keep his side in the game.

In the second half the match was more balanced but scoring chances were scarce and both goalkeepers were practically inactive. Seven minutes from time the decisive penalty incident when a Luke Scicluna shot was blocked by Kyle Gatt’s hands and from the resultant penalty Ion Alin Margarit fired home.
