Two men were seriously injured in a fire near a fireworks factory in Zebbug.

The incident took place in Wied Qirda, close to the St Joseph Fireworks Factory, at 3.45pm.

In a statement, the police said that the fire developed as the men were trying to destroy unwanted material from the fireworks factory.

The two men, aged 28 and 58, both from Zebbug, were assisted by a medical team and the Civil Protection Department before they were taken to hospital for treatment.

Magistrate Josette Demicoli is conducting an inquiry.
