Swieqi United defeated Vittoriosa Stars 1-0 in a low profile match to move close to the top positions in the standings.
For Vittoriosa it was yet another disappointing result, with the only good news in the week coming off the field of play as they were awarded a 3-0 victory for their drawn game against Zebbug Rangers.Yesterday's match was drab at times, but Swieqi deserved their victory.
The all important winner was scored on 29 minutes when Kyle Muscat shot home from an ideal position.
The second half was more entertaining with Vittoriosa having also some scoring opportunities. Swieqi were rather unlucky not to seal it three minutes from time when Salis Ibrahim dribbled the opposing goalkeeper, but could only hit the post from an acute angle.

Scorers: Patrick Teixeira Maia 20' (SL), Luka Mijic 92' (S)
Substitute Luka Mijic scored a great goal deep in stoippage time to save league leaders Sirens from a defeat against third placed Santa Lucia.
Sant Lucia were heading towards victory thanks to Patrick Teixeira Maia's first half goal after a good Usaga Mendoza header. Sant Lucia were the better team especially in the first half and should at least doubled the score with Neil Micallef missing a glorious chance in front of goal.
The second half was more balanced with Sirens, now with the wind behind their backs, pushed forward for the equaliser but were never really dangerous in front of goal.In the dying stages Sirens were more menacing, even though Teixeira Maia went close to finish off his opponents but Montfort had other ideas.
Then when all seemed lost for the leaders came Mijic's scorcher from the edge of the area to break Santa Lucia's hearts.
