After surprisingly beating Hamrun Spartans in their last outing, Mosta grabbed another three points beating lowly Pieta by the odd goal in five.

Pieta, like Qormi, have now practically sealed their fate for a quick return to First Division football next season.

After euffering this tenth successive defeat, only a sporting miracle can now save Pieta from the drop.

For Mosta this was sweet revenge for their first round defeat against Pieta.

Pieta had a promising start with the Mosta goalkeeper immediately called in action to save a dangerous shot from Neil Pace Cocks after only three minutes play.

Eight minutes later Mosta' first attempt at goal with a Demir Imeri shot going just wide.

On 21 minutes the Pieta custodian saved his side with a brilliant save off a Darlington shot.

This was the prelude to Mosta's opener four minutes later when central defender Tyrone Farrugia drilled low into the net following an Imeri corner.

Pieta failed to recover from this upset and went further behing eight minutes from the break when Dexter Xuereb scored a great goal with a shot on the turn that gave Vella no chance to save.

But two minutes later Pieta were back in business when a Jan Busuttil shot rattled against the crossbar and from the rebound Nichoals Pisani managed to head the ball home.

The second half was played a slow rate, very slow at times, as Pieta failed to gain momentum from their first goal.

On 56 minutes Pieta timidly tried their luck with a Calistus effort far away from target.

Fifteen minutes from time Pieta surprised their opponents who were controlling the game with relative ease when Gabreil Mensah found the back of the net with a precise grounder.

This goal brought Mosta back to life and four minutes later Mosta scored what proved to be the winner, when Demir Imeri found gaps in the Pieta rearguard to easily beat Vella all alone in front of goal.
