A man was seriously injured in a gas explosion in Paola on Sunday evening, the police said.

The accident happened in Nazzarenu Street at 9pm.

The 48-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The police were assisted by members of the Civil Protection Department.

Sources said the gas cylinder itself was still intact, and that the explosion could have possibly been caused by a faulty regulator or gas pipe.
