Sirens grabbed the much needed three points at stake with an impressive victory over Mqabba to gain a historic promotion to the Premier League. It will be the first time in their history that Sirens will play in the top flight of Maltese football, with the promotion coming on the club's 5oth anniversary.

It was a deserved promotion for Sirens who have the best attack and best defence of the Division. Under the guidance of Vince Carbonaro, Sirens set their sights on the promotion from the early games and were always among the front runners.

Sirens can also clinch the title in the coming matches as they hold a good advantage over second placed Gudja. In yesterday's match Sirens were simply the better team even though they found the going hard in the first minutes.

However after taking a one-goal lead by the interval, Sirens outclassed their opponents in the second half, scoring at will and playing some very good football in the process.

Mqabba were even reduced to ten men twenty minutes from time when Brandon Grech was sent off for hitting an opponent.

Zebbug Rangers continued with their winning streak beating lowly San Gwann by three clear goals. The result adds more pressure on San Gwann who remain in the last two places, trailing Qrendi by one point.

The race with Qrendi with four matches remaining will surely be one of the highlights of the last part of the season. Zebbug were again superior yesterday as they confirmed that they are one of the most in-form teams at the moment.

Zebbug took a two-goal lead by the end of the first half thanks to two goals scored by Shawn Darmanin. In the second half the match was less intense, but Zebbug still had some good scoring opportunities even missing a penalty and adding a third goal two minutes from time.

Gudja missed the bus yesterday as they failed to beat Santa Lucia to obtain mathematical certainty of promotion. However with a ten-point lead and four games to go, Gudja look set for their first ever promotion to the Premier League.

The game was a thriller to say the least, with both sides fighting it out till the bitter end.
