Watch: We need to be cautious on fourth seat, PL chief electoral officer says

Louis Gatt, the Labour’s Chief Electoral Officer said that the projections show that the PL have an absolute majority, as the Prime Minister has announced. He also said that the difference between the two parties appears to be of more than 40,000 votes.

“This is still a predicted number so one needs to be careful. Over a 100 boxes have been opened, however, so there is a wide spectrum from where one can get a good feeling how the people have voted.”

When asked if the PL would attain the fourth seat, Gatt said it is still premature for the PL to establish this. He also reminded that this election is won by the number of seats and not by the number of first preferences, so one needs to analyse the transfer of votes.

He said that we cannot be presumptuous and speak about the fourth seat. “We need to give more time for further samples and for figures from the Electoral Commission.”
