From Monday 26 August, to Friday 30 August, 8pm to 5am, Infrastructure Malta said it will be closing southbound carriageway of Regional Road, between the Santa Venera/Birkirkara bridge roundabout and the Santa Venera Tunnels, for overnight road upgrade works.

Drivers are urged to follow diversion signs to Santa Venera and Hamrun. All lanes will be open during the day.

After reconstructing and widening the stretch of Regional Road between the Tal-Qroqq Tunnels and Santa Venera, “we are now upgrading another part of this road, further south, to introduce central reservation crash barriers and to resurface the carriageway with new asphalt, Infrastructure Malta said.

From Tuesday 27 August 9am to Wednesday 28 4pm, Infrastructure Malta is also closing the southbound carriageway of Luqa Road, from Luqa to SantaLucija roundabout and Paola, for final asphalt laying works.

To reach Paola from Gudja and Luqa, drivers should follow diversion signs to Dawret il-Gudja Road and Tal-Barrani Road. Northbound carriageway, from Santa Lucija to Luqa, will remain open at all times.

This €2 million reconstruction project includes 4 new lanes, new roadsafety systems and a new cycling and walking track, IM said.
