Sirens made history yesterday as they claimed their first ever win in the Premier League beating Mosta in a seven-goal thriller.

It was an exciting affair with Sirens building a commanding 4-1 lead half way through the second half, but Mosta staged a late rally scoring two late goals and almost obtaining a dramatic equaliser as Sirens were ina state of shock.

Both teams di well in their opening match over the last weekend, with Sirens earning a point against Senglea in the Premier debut and with Mosta demolishing Tarxien in a very promising opening match.

Sirens did the early running and it was no surprise that they took the lead on six minutes when Ige Adeshina headed home past Vella an inviting cross from the right.

Mosta had an immediate reaction with Murga, who had a brilliant debut against Tarxien, again in the thick of the action, passing towards ex-Sliema stalwart Muchardi who was denied by a brilliant Cassar save.

On 16 minutes Mosta were back to level terms when Muchardi crossed from the right towards Mamadou Jallow, whose back heel completely deceived goalkeeper Cassar. The match was more balanced now with both sides playing entertaining football.

On 28 minutes Sirens were back in front when ex-Valletta player Romeo Romao did all the running and crossed towards Emanuel Okoye who drilled powerfully home for a well taken goal.

On 36 minutes a Morisco freekick was well saved by Cassar.

Mosta went all out for the equaliser at the start of the second half and went close with Jallow denied by goalkeeper Vella. But on 57 minutes Sirens mad it three when Okoye crossed towards Flavio Cheveresan who headed home.

Sirens were now playing definitely better and a Wellington scorcher was partially saved by Vella with the ball finishing across the crossbar.

On 68 minutes Sirens made it four when Wellington's run left a couple of Mosta defenders in its wake and Wellington scored with a precise grounder.

The game seemed dead and buried but Mosta still had some fighting spirit in them and were unlucky on 72 minutes when Gomes dribbled past the Sirens goalkeeper Cassar but his shot at goal slammed against the upright.

On 78 minutes Cassar came to his side's rescue denying Zachary Brincat. But two minutes later Cassar could do nothing to stop Matthias Muchardi to score Mosta's second from close range.

A further two minutes and Mosta were back in business when Weverton Gomez resolved a melee in front of goal.

The remaining minutes were endless for Sirens as Mosta pushed forward for an incredible equaliser, but the newly promoted side managed to hold to its precious slender lead to grab a historic first-ever Premier League victory.

Sirens will now face Hibernians after the international break and will hope to continue on this positive start.

This is their first stint in the Premier League, after having ben crowned BOV Div. I champions in the 2018-2019 season.

For Mosta this was an unexpected setback especially after their brilliant performance in the opening match against Tarxien.

Although on the losing end, Mosta still produced some good football with a never-say-die attitude that almost gave them a point yesterday.
