Qrendi returned to winning ways beating Swieqi to move to second place in the standings. Both teams had different results in their last outing, with Qrendi crushed 1-4 by Zejtun and Swieqi in impreesive mode against Qormi in a 4-1 win.

But yesterday it was a completely different story with Qrendi in command especially after taking a 14th minute lead through Radovanovic. Swieqi were unlucky on 34 minutes when a Taliana shot smashed against the crossbar.

On the resumption Qrendi scored two quick goals in the space of five minutes to kill Swieqi's residual hopes.

On 55 minutes a Dasser Sammut shot was partially blocked by the goalkeeper and Alexander Nilsson was on hand to hit home the rebound and five minutes later Dasser Sammut scored with a low shot after a well orchestrated move.

Three minutes from time, Fernando Nunes scored a consolation goal for Swieqi.

Naxxar L-Qormi     3-0

Naxxar L: O. Borg, J. Sciberras, M. Fenech, M. Mifsud, F. Edson Cerqueira, D. Falzon, R. Cassar, J. Debono, B. Essiel, S. Meilak (J. Ellul 67') G. Martins Leite (A. Azzopardi 90').

Qormi: J. Azopardi, F. Gnindokponou, C. Matombo, R. Silva Santos, M. Borg, B. Grech (T. Gusman 54'), A. Abela, L. Farrugia, F. Gusman, N. Ghio, N. Gauci (S. Grech 74').

Referee: Aleksandar Jovanovic

Scorers: Darren Falzon 24', Gilberto Martins Leite 65', Joel Ellul 80'

Ten-man Naxxar Lions added to Qormi's woes yesterday, notching the second consecutive victory and punishing Qormi who suffered their second consecutive heavy defeat.

A reaction was expected from Qormi after the drubbing received at the hands of Swieqi in their last outing, but it was not to be as yesterday they were again subdued by the Lions who were the better team on the field of play.

A dull first half was brightened up by Darren Falzon's header on 24 minutes with the ball finishing at the back of the net. On the resumption Qormi took the initiative but the Naxxar defence was never in real danger.

On 61 minutes Naxxar were down to ten when Mead Mifsud received a second booking, but four minutes later Naxxar made it two with a great Martins Leite move who dribbled a couple of players including the goalkeeper.

Ten minutes from time Qormi's misery was complete when Joel Ellul scored the third goal from close range.
