Stolen ring found in inmate's excretions in Corradino prison – reports

A stolen ring which was worth €15,000 was found in a prisoner’s excretions at the Corradino Correctional Facility, One News and TVM report.

The prison authorities located the ring in the prisoner’s stomach when he was being scanned before entering prison last Saturday.

A 24-hour watch was kept on the prisoner in his cell until the officers found the ring in the man’s excretions today, the reports say. The ring has been passed on to the police.

The inmate, Avtandil Rusia, 37, from Georgia, was arraigned before magistrate Victor Axiaq on Saturday. He was charged with aggravated theft from a number of private residences in Rabat, Attard, Swieqi, San Gwann, Zebbug and Qormi. The alleged crimes, in which cash, jewellery, perfume and whiskey were stolen, took place between October 17 and 29.
