Possibility of AC Milan training camp in Malta during Christmas break

Thursday, 7 November 2019, 16:06 Last update: about 5 years ago

Talks are in hand for Italian Serie A team AC Milan to visit Malta for a training camp during the Christmas break, according to reports.

The Milan club is in contact with the Malta Football Association for the use of the MFA facilities for their training camp, which could take place in the last week of December or early January.

The man behind the idea of the visit is Milan coach Stefano Pioli, who last year brought his then club Fiorentina for a visit, also during the Christmas break. Pioli took over Milan’s reins when Marco Giampaolo was sacked last month.

The good relations that exist between MFA president Bjorn Vassallo and Milan chief football officer Zvonimir Boban – they worked together within the FIFA fold until a few months ago – could further pave the way for the visit to take place.

If the visit does happen, there is also a possibility that Milan would play a friendly game against a Maltese premier league side, TVM reports.

The last time Milan visited Malta was in 2007 when the club had then gone on to win the Champions League in the final against Liverpool in Athens.

The first part of this season has not gone well for Milan, who have lost five of their first 10 league matches and on Sunday face league leaders Juventus.
