Yorgen Fenech is back at the police depot after spending part of the morning accompanying police officers while they conducted a search on the yacht on which he was caught on Wednesday, sources told The Malta Independent.

Fenech was given police bail on Thursday evening after hours of interrogation, which resumed on Friday morning when police officers accompanied Fenech to his yacht which is still berthed at Portomaso.

The police have kept a close watch on the yacht since Wednesday morning, believing that any items on board could shed more light in their investigations.

On Friday morning, Fenech was taken to the yacht which was searched in his presence.

Fenech was wearing a black coat and trousers as well as black sunglasses. He was later taken back to the police depot where the interrogation which was interrupted on Thursday evening at 9pm is continuing.

The marina was kept closed all through the morning while the police were conducting the search, and was re-opened at around noon.

Once on police bail, the police can prolong their interrogation of persons of interest. If arraigned in court, a suspect can no longer be interrogated by the police. It is unlikely that there will be an arraignment on Friday.

The police are also still holding a “middleman” who has been offered a recommendation by the Prime Minister for a presidential pardon on condition that information he gives in relation to the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia is corroborated in court. The middleman was however taken to hospital this morning after being taken ill.
