Watch: ‘I am not here to judge people’, Michael Falzon

Tuesday, 26 November 2019, 11:08 Last update: about 5 years ago

Family Minister Michael Falzon would not be drawn to express himself on whether Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Minister Konrad Mizzi should following in the footsteps of Keith Schembri, who resigned from the post of OPM chief of staff in the wake of police investigations into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

“I am not here to judge anyone,” Falzon said, adding that he trusts the institutions who are proving to everyone that they are working “without looking at faces”.

Foreign Minister Carmelo Abela echoed Falzon, saying that the institutions should continue to be allowed to work as they are doing.

Asked about shouldering of political responsibility, Abela said that this also works for the Opposition. “Whoever causes damage to Malta abroad must also carry responsibility,” he said. Asked about whether Mizzi should resign, Abela said decisions are taken at the opportune time.

Environment Minister Jose Herrera said that he had not been officially informed of the developments and preferred not to comment.

Parliamentary secretary Silvio Schembri said that the government will carry out its five-year mandate in government. He appreciated what Keith Schembri had done for the government to continue working in a serene way.

Asked about reports that Keith Schembri is being questioned by the police, Silvio Schembri repeatedly said “Tghidx cucati” (stop saying nonsense”). The government’s agenda is not dictated by the opposition.

A smiling Evarist Bartolo said that when he has more to say he will speak up. Bartolo has for the past days prefer to air his views via Facebook posts.
