Recap: The main takeaways from Melvin Theuma’s testimony

Neil Camilleri & Rebekah Cilia Thursday, 5 December 2019, 14:08 Last update: about 8 years ago

Melvin Theuma’s testimony in court on Wednesday has opened a new can of worms for the government. The pardoned middleman in the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia spoke of his close relationship with 17 Black owner Yorgen Fenech, who has been charged with conspiracy to organize the journalist’s murder.

His testimony also highlighted the close ties between Fenech and people at the Office of the Prime Minister, including former chief of staff Keith Schembri. Theuma told the court of a phantom government job he had been given after meeting Schembri at Castille, and how he had been approached by a man who was formerly part of the PM’s security detail.

He also said Fenech had inside information about the December 2017 police raid in which the three murder suspects were arrested.

The video above highlights the main points that come out of Thursday’s sitting.
