Malta has morphed into a mafia state, and become exactly how Sicily would have turned out if Cosa Nostra were put in charge, the co-author of a new book on the murder of the journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia has claimed, The Times of London reports.
“Malta has become a dystopian laboratory revealing how democracies can degenerate,” said Carlo Bonini, the Italian mafia expert whose book Murder on the Malta Express lifts the lid on the corruption Caruana Galizia was exposing when she was killed by a car bomb in October 2017.
