PN leader Adrian Delia used his New Year's message to make a plea for unity, saying that the people should come together so that the country truly comes first, "after a year which saw every element of the country's normality be challenged and be broken."
"It wasn't an easy year, it was a year where our country passed through, and still is passing through, a lot of difficult moments wherein everything which can describe normality in our country was threatened and shaken, leaving all of us trying to see how to find the hope to move forward", Delia began.
He said that when the time at the end of the year comes to discuss and examine all that has happened throughout the said year, the Maltese and Gozitan people, "in spite of all that the country has passed through, must be able to come together so that the doubts and uncertainties over the normality which has practically been broken are alleviated, and so that we can start building things from scratch."
Delia said that this is his New Year's wish: "that we have the ability so that politics, as this is a political message as a politician, is used only for the service of the people, we have to remove everything that divides us, work and build upon all that which brings us together and recognises where things were wrong".
He said that all those who in some way or another must shoulder responsibility, must do so not only for themselves but also for the country.
He said that the people must be capable of looking forward in such a manner not to see what they can take from Malta, but what they can give.
Delia concluded that while the past year practically destroyed any semblance of normality that the country had, it was time to look forward to a year when "we can work, where we can come together so that we can truly bring our country first before everything".
