Speaker rules Azzopardi prima facie in breach of privilege on comments about Cardona

Speaker of the House Anglu Farrugia today ruled that Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi was, prima facie, in breach of privilege when he said Labour MP Chris Cardona was “corrupt” and a “liar”.

During Monday’s parliament session, Chris Cardona requested the Speaker of the House to rule on a on a Facebook post uploaded on 5 January, in which Azzopardi called Cardona a liar and corrupt.

Azzopardi did not withdraw what he said, challenging Cardona to sue him.

The case will be taken in front of the Privileges Committee.
