The FA Trophy match between Xewkija Tigers and Pieta Hotspurs this afternoon will be remembered not for the score or level of play showed, but for a bizarre incident that could lead to repercussions.

Although Xewkija Tigers had a man sent off, they ended the game playing with 11 players after a substituted entered the field of play without being noticed by the officials.

Xewkija Tigers had Rodney Buttigieg sent off towards the end of the first half, with the Gozitans forced to play the second half with 10 men.

Towards the end of the game, there was some confusion involving the two benches and, without being seen by the officials, one of the Xewkija substitutes, Manuel Scerri, joined his team-mates on the pitch for the last few minutes.

Xewkija’s attempts to equalise – Pieta were leading 2-1 – were to no avail.
