Newly promoted Sirens continued to impress, beating ten-man Hibernians to move to third place just three points behind league leaders Floriana. For high flying Hibernians this was an unexpected setback that leaves them four points behind the Greens.

The match failed to reach high standards and was very boring at times. Hibernians disappointed and never settled down. Undoubtedly the two yellow cards received by Joseph Mbong in the sapce of two  minutes mid-way through the first half, had its toll on the final result.

From the start Sirens, still smarting from the drubbing by Valletta in the FA Trophy, showed great spirit and looked determined to upset their more fancied opponents. In the second half Sirens took the chances that came their way to obtain a deserved but unexpected victory, a victory that puts them, by right, among the title contenders.

On three minutes Sirens had a great opportunity with Wellington blasting over the bar when all alone in front of goal. Two minutes at the other end Sirens custodian Cassar made a great save off a point blank header from Iriberri.

On 24 minutes Mbong received a yellow card and two minutes later he received the second one, leaving his side with ten players. Sirens almost took immediatee advantage but Jovicic made a great save off a Cheveresan header.

Just before the break a good run by Okoye with his grounder going wide.

In the second half the match did not improve much but on 59 minutes Sirens broke the deadlock. A good cross from the left by Espindola, with Jovicic completely missing the flight of the ball and Wellington De Oliveira headed home.

Hibernians were now at a loss and tried to push forward, but Sirens punished the Paolites with a well executed second goal in the best move of the match. Dos Anjos beat the offside trap and squared towards Ricardo Silva Faria who shot beautifully home for a perfect finish.

From then onwards the match lost all its interest with Steve D'Amato's boys easily conatining Hibernians' residual hopes of revival.
