The Minister for Justice Edward Zammit Lewis and Parliamentary Secretary for Reforms Rosianne Cutajar announced that Audrey Friggieri has been appointed as the new Commissioner against Gender Based Violence and Domestic violence.
Friggieri is a University lecturer in the Faculty of Social Wellebeing and had graduated in family psychotherapy and a masters in adult education. She is currently pursuing a doctorate, researching on students who have dropped out of school who are left with no education or work.
Friggieri's first comment as the new commissioner was that she will have a strong voice in the fight against domestic violence and addressed that there will be more training for all the professionals who work closely with these victims of abuse.
Justice Minister Zammit Lewis and Parliamentary Secretary Cutajar have committed to pushing for to work harder in the prevention of all forms of violence, not just through educational campaigns, but also through the tools needed for people to no longer remain in vulnerable situations and be more independent. The government is determined to continue working to ensure social transformation when necessary, and has increased the financial allocation in the fight against domestic violence by more than 70%, a government statement read.
