Floriana's grip on the title is slowly but surely slipping away from their grasp as yesterday, against all odds the Greens suffered an unexpected debacle at the hands of newly promoted Gudja United.

This is a massive blow for Floriana who risk losing the leadership for the first time this season if the champions gain points this afternoon in the crunch match against Birkirkara.

Floriana were a pale shadow of the team that dominated in the first round, and yesterday's defeat was the third one suffered in the second round after the ones against Birkirkara and Valletta.

The Greens failed to impress yesterday and after taking an early lead they elected to control the match. To be fair Gudja never worried the Greens' defence especially in the first half which was rather scrappy to say the least.

Floriana took the lead on 15 minutes through a Garcia strike that left Zammit helpless.

Things did not change much on the resumption with Floriana easily controlling the match with long possession of the ball and with Gudja seemingly waiting for the good moment to strike.

The inclusion of Mensah gave Gudja more flair in attack and half way through the second half Gudja drew level. A Justin Grioli freekick was met by Floriana defender Ruiz who inadvertedly headed past his own goalkeeper for a very unlucky own goal.

Floriana were under shock and before even trying to recover they were knocked out four minutes later by Miguel Jimenez's winner who scored a great goal from the edge of the area with the ball finishing in the top corner.

Floriana tried to turn the tied around but it was too late for them now. They pushed forward but they lacked ideas and Gudja defended well to obtain a stunning victory that could have its toll on the title and relegation issue.
