Zebbug Rangers dented Naxxar Lions' chance of moving third in the table when they beat them with a goal in each half.

Zebbug saw more of the ball during the initial stage of the match, with Noah Ojuola's 20-meter shot hitting the post on seven minutes with Naxxar goalkeeper Omar Borg beaten. On 25 minutes, Zebbug took the lead thanks to Muda Fagbeja, who clinically finished off a flowing attack from close-range. On 42 minutes, Borg performed an excellent save on a drive from Lawrence Chiedozie, blocking his powerful shot in two attempts. Two minutes later, a shot from Mark Fenech after some good work by Gilberto Carrara sailed inches over the crossbar, Naxxar's first real threat of the match towards the Zebbug goal.

On 74 minutes, Naxxar's Gilberto Carrara had a wonderful opportunity to score but incredibly hit wide from close range. This was during a period that Naxxar were seriously pushing for an equaliser.

On the stroke of full-time, Edson Farias missed a sitter in a goalmouth melee, with again Grech clearing the danger in time. With all Naxxar players in search for the equaliser up front, including goalkeeper Borg, Zebbug doubled the score with the very last kick of the match, thanks to an opportunistic Randall Vella goal.
