A woman was seriously injured this morning following an explosion in her residence in Swieqi, the police said.

The accident took place in Triq is-Siegh at 8.15am.

The police did not say what caused the explosion.

The 69-year-old woman was first assisted by members of the Civil Protection Department before being taken to hospital for treatment.
