Fresh from their surprising victory over league leaders Zejtun, making it a double this season, Qormi yesterday failed to impress against a Swieqi side which played for 50 minutes with a player less.

Qormi thus missed a golden opportunity to completely move to safer waters as they had to settle for a point. The match never reached high standards with Swieqi deserving the point earned.

Swieqi took the lead on 29 minutes with a fine moved finished in style by Kyle Muscat. However two minutes later Qormi were level again when Bustos was tripped inside the box and Bradly Schembri made no m istake from the penalty spot.

Five minutes before the breal Ayorinde Tejumola was sent off apparently for hitting an opponent. However Qormi failed to capitalise with their sterile attack lacking punch.

Pembroke returned to winning form with a bang beating relegation worried side Fgura, thanks to four goals scored in the first part of the match.

For Fgura who were in good shape lately having obtained some precious points, this was a real setback. They were completely outclassed in the first half, and although they played better in the second part, they could surely not save the match.

Veteran striker Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza scored a brace for Pembroke with the other goals coming from Glenn Azzopardi and Joao Pedro Oliveira Santos.

At the start of the second half the promising Dennis Cartella pulled one back for Fgura.

Referee:  Aleksandar Jovanovic

League leaders Zejtun are in evident difficulty as yesterday they stumbled to their second consecutive defeat after the one against Qormi seven days ago.

Zejtun appear to have lost their striking power lately, failing to score in their last two outings.Yesterday they had more of the ball but were never really effective in front of goal.

Qrendi scored the winner in one of their rare attacks just before the break with Dasser Sammut taking full advantage of some shortcomings in the Zejtun defence.

The league leaders attacked with all force on the resumption but Qrendi were never in real danger as they held on to this precious victory.
