Struggling Sliema Wanderers proved a point yesterday against high-flying Sirens.

The Wanderers, for the second time under the guidance of Andrea Pisanu are in desperate need of points, and the ove earned yesterday could be considered a blessing, but after yesterday's showing this result could be rather too tight for Sliema.

Frankly much more was expected from Sirens, as the newly promoted outfit are still in the title.

However yesterday they missed the bus as the two points dropped against a side fighting to avoid the drop, can prove to be fundamentl at the end of the season.

Sirens are now three points behing league leaders Floriana and Valletta, but could lose third place if Hibernians beat the in-form Birkirkara this afternoon.

Sirens coach left the same eleven that beat Santa Lucia in the previous match, except for the suspended Okoye, who was replaced by Menezes.

Sliema almost took the lead in their first attempt at goal. when Cisotti's grounder hit the base of the upright.

On 24 minutes Sliema went close again with a Mark Scerri effort sailing over the bar, and two minutes later Jean Paul Farrugia failed to connect in front of goal.

On 32 minutes Ige Adeshina had an effort going slightly over the bar and just before the break Jake Grech saved the Blues when he saved Cheveresan's effort.

At the start of the second half both teams had a good scoring opportunity.

A Juri Cisotti shot went off target and on the other end and Espindola's drive from a distance went just over the crossbar.

In the second half after these scoring opportunities, both sides faded out gradually, with both happy with the point acquired.

Near the end Sirens made an extra effort but the Sliema reaguard withstood the pressure and almost scored a winner when a Gilmar freekick from an ideal position missed thew upright by a whisker.
