Mario Mallia, former Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Valletta, has passed away aged 59.

Mallia had retired in December 2019.

He was appointed CEO in January 2016. He had previously held a number of other roles at the bank, including those of chief finance officer, chief risk officer and chief operations officer.

Mario Mallia, a Certified Public Accountant by profession, studied at De La Salle College and held a Master of Arts degree from the University of Malta.

He is survived by his wife Rosette, and children, Daniela and Bernard.
